FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the inflation rate in Malaysia?

Malaysia's inflation rate varies year by year. Historical data shows that from 1970 to 2025, the average annual inflation rate has been around 3-4%. Our calculator uses official CPI (Consumer Price Index) data from Bank Negara Malaysia and the Department of Statistics Malaysia to provide accurate inflation-adjusted values.

How do I calculate the purchasing power of RM 1,000 from 1990?

Simply select "Worth Now" mode, enter RM 1,000 as the amount, and choose 1990 as the year. Worth.exe will calculate what that amount is equivalent to in today's purchasing power, accounting for Malaysia's inflation over the years.

What is the difference between "Worth Now" and "Worth Back"?

"Worth Now" calculates what a past amount is worth today (e.g., RM 1,000 in 1990 → how much in 2025?). "Worth Back" does the reverse - it shows what today's amount was equivalent to in a past year (e.g., RM 1,000 today → what was equivalent in 1990?).

How accurate is the gold price data?

Our gold prices are based on annual average prices from the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) in USD per troy ounce, converted to MYR using historical USD/MYR exchange rates from Bank Negara Malaysia. The data provides a reasonable approximation of gold investment returns over time.

Why is Bitcoin data only available from 2009?

Bitcoin was created in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto, so no price data exists before that year. For calculations involving years before 2009, Bitcoin comparison will show "N/A" (Not Available).

What is KLCI and why should I compare against it?

KLCI (FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI) is Malaysia's benchmark stock market index, comprising the 30 largest companies listed on Bursa Malaysia. Comparing your money against KLCI shows what returns you might have achieved by investing in Malaysian stocks instead of holding cash.
